Harmonized MHAS Creation Code

The Harmonized MHAS dataset can be downloaded directly from the MHAS Website: Download Harmonized MHAS Data

The Harmonized MHAS version B.4 dataset is created using data from the MHAS as of February 2022.

Download the Harmonized MHAS Stata Creation Code.

To run the Harmonized MHAS Creation Code in Stata:

  • From MHAS website, download all raw Direct and Proxy Interviews (household and individual level) data files for 2001, 2003, 2012, and 2015 in Stata format.
  • Edit lines 13 - 17 of the Stata Creation Code to list the folder location of the MHAS master file and MHAS data for each wave and edit line 18 to list the folder location where you would like to save the Harmonized MHAS dataset.

If you would prefer to work with the Harmonized MHAS dataset in a statistical package other than Stata, you can convert the Harmonized MHAS Stata dataset using a program such as Stat/Transfer. If you do not have access to Stat/Transfer, you may be able to read the .dta dataset into your stat package using an “import” or “get” function. When reading a .dta dataset into another package, it is best to first save the dataset in a Stata version 12 format using the command saveold.
