SHARE-Croatia: Study Overview
SHARE is a cross-national panel study of people aged 50 and older and their partners, living in private households in all 26 continental countries of the European Union, Switzerland, and Israel. Its main goal is to provide a multidisciplinary data resource on the influence of health and socioeconomic factors on aging at the individual and societal levels. The survey elicits information about demographics, health, cognition, health care use and costs, employment status, income and assets, housing, and expectations.
The SHARE-Croatia sample is a nationally representative sample of the population aged 50 years and older, living in private households in Croatia. The initial sample was recruited in 2015 using a stratified, multistage sampling of individuals.
Age Eligibility | Age 50 and older |
---|---|
People Interviewed per Household | One person per household |
Spouse Inclusion | Spouse of any age |
Representativeness | Nationally representative |
Institutional Representation | Institutionalized respondents included in sampling frame. Respondents followed into institutions |
Oversampling | None |
The SHARE core interview was carried out every two years through face-to-face interviews, using computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) since 2015.

In addition to the core interview, SHARE also collects a number of other types of data.
End of Life Interview | Conducted at Wave 7 with someone knowledgeable about deceased respondents. |
---|---|
Life History Interview | Conducted for all respondents at Wave 7. |
Self-Completion Survey | Provided to all respondents at Waves 6 and 7. |
Health Assessment | Conducted at Waves 6 and 7 for all respondents. |
The SHARE-Croatia Wave 6 sample included 3,631 selected households. Since then, the SHARE-Croatia sample has been refreshed at Wave 7. When a refreshment sample is drawn, households are selected using a stratified, multistage sampling.

SHARE-Croatia does not include any data linkages.
